The Special Operations Helicopter Association Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization and was formed in 1984 to collect money for education funds to the children of U.S. Air Force Special Operations helicopter personnel (Operators, Maintenance, and Support) who perished while on active duty and assigned to any Air Force MH-53 unit.
Whether members passed on during training or operational missions, or from natural causes, their children are eligible for support.
Currently there are over 45 children currently eligible, many have received funds and three are now in college. Some have graduated from Vo-Tech’s, 2 year,4 year and graduate studies programs. We have many young children who will in the next decade need funds for college or post high school education expenses.
Our tax exempt non-profit fund has no paid employees, all the money collected goes to the children. Our goal is for these children to get an education and graduate with no debt from the college experience. So far we have been very successful in either granting the funds or finding the funds from other sources for these students.
The fund receives all its money from donations.
We may be the only unit in the Air Force that really does take care of its own.
Jarmal Riley's dad (one of our previous 20th commanders office staff) was killed in a car crash and thus the Warrior Fund did not cover his expenses.
Jamal recently graduated and had this to say:
Dear Mr.Grove,
I have finally graduated college, and I would like to personally thank you and everyone from the 20th SOS for your support throughout my career as an undergraduate student. I graduated with a degree in Political Science and now I am currently thinking about joining the Air Force. If you have any advice for me it would greatly be appreciated, and once again thank you for your continued support.

We, the SOHA, and the SOF fund of Wash D.C. did fund his school. AND IT WORKED!
We are probably the only squadron level Scholarship program that has hung in for the long haul , and we have several young kids to go, Steve Plumhoff's son is about the youngest. We will keep it alive until they are thru school.
Tommy Hull is the president of the SOHA foundation.
Purchase Ejner Fulsang's book and he will donate to the SOHA fund ¢50 per book that is sold.
